Educator Reflection

Who I was. Who I am. Who I aspire to be.

Teaching Superpowers

My strengths make me an unstoppable educator.  I know I got what it takes with my superpowers in my back pocket.

Connection

Empathy and genuine curiosity is key to establishing meaningful connections between educator and students. I love building human to human connections throughout the day!

Growth Mindset

Students must know that the sky is the limit. Failure is necessary to learn and grow from our mistakes. Each and every student deserves a teacher who believes in their failures just as much as their success.

What does it mean to be an anti-racist educator?

Exist and Resist. To me, being an anti-racist educator means showing up as my queer, pro Black, abolitionist self. Showing students that you do not have to follow  hegemonic values to be respected  and valued at school means showing students love. Existing  AND continuously examining and unlearning  bias in myself and others creates a culture of resistance.

Always Growing. Always Evolving.

Knowing your areas of growth allow you to reflect on the ways you need to show up for your students. I believe that my areas of growth are powerful tools to examine the ways in which I can become a better advocate for all students.

Classroom Management

Classroom culture sets the tone for classroom management. I love student led classrooms where each scholar holds themselves and each other accountable to make safe and expected choices . I would love to grow further by holding students individually accountable for their actions instead of a sole authority figure.

How might I create an Ethnic Studies framework that is effective, relevant, and appropriate for elementary classrooms?
